Top 2 common mistakes for virtual competitions (they're simple to avoid!)

Virtual competitions have been taking off over here at PSO. We'd like to give you 2 reminders about common mistakes that we see, so you can avoid doing them!

Editing your video if you're not in the Edited Video category

Editing your video is not allowed unless you're in the Edited Video category. The only things that you are allowed to do in any of the other categories are:

  • Cut off the beginning or the end of your video so that it fits into the allowed times per level

  • Add in an audio track of your song so that the sound quality is improved

Otherwise, nothing else is allowed! Do NOT do these things:

  • Add in your name, the name of the videographer, any text, etc. We have an intro statement form that you can fill out that will be read before you perform. Your name and studio will also be announced. Thanking your friends or people who worked on your video is perfect for these.

  • Add a filter to your video.

  • In general, if you are using editing software to do anything, that’s only allowed in Edited Video.

If you have edited your video and submitted for a category other than Edited Video, we will move you to Showcase.

Sending us a video longer than your allowed time per Level.

There is no minimum time requirement, but there is a maximum amount of time allowed per level. Your video should be no longer than:

  • Level 1: 2:30 minutes
  • Level 2: 3:00 minutes
  • Level 3: 3:30 minutes
  • Level 4: 4:00 minutes
  • Level 5: 4:00 minutes
  • Professional: 4:00 minutes
  • Showcase or Showcase Plus: 4:00 minutes
  • Doubles/Groups: 4:00 minutes
  • Freedance: 4:00 minutes
  • Non-Level Categories: 4:00 minutes

Any video file uploaded with a timestamp that is beyond the maximum permitted time will be edited to fit within these time frames.

We've been seeing many videos where the performance only is within these time limits, but the video as a whole is longer than the time limits. Please cut your video down! We hate cutting off your endings.

Hopefully this helps you avoid some common issues! We wish you good grip during your performance and we look forward to seeing your video!
