PSO: When and where did you compete?

Lainey: 2018 Atlantic Pole Championships

PSO: What was your inspiration or story behind your piece?

Lainey:I’ve always loved Disney movies and princesses, but I’m just drawn to Ursula from “The Little Mermaid.” She owns her curvy, sassy nature and is unapologetically a bad girl!

PSO: What would you like to share about your PSO competition experience?

Lainey: When I performed , I’d been a pole dancer for several years. I had done a couple of performances at my studio, but never thought of competing or performing on a larger stage. But I had an idea for a routine and it stuck with me for about 3 years, so I decided to just go for it! I chose to showcase because my performance was about having fun and not winning a medal or having anyone judge me.
My performance wasn’t just my song...it was my hair, my outfit, my makeup...everything! I decided to just go all out and embody Ursula.
I was terrified to get on stage...I was in tears just minutes before my name was called. But when I walked up the steps to the stage, I thought “I’m Ursula!” I took the stage and my nerves disappeared! My performance wasn’t perfect but I had so much fun!! In one of my professional photos, a friend commented that I looked like I was having fun! That was my exact thought when the picture was taken!
My family & fellow pole divas were cheering me on so loudly and it made it even more special!! I would say if you’re thinking about performing, do it!! You’ll never regret it!!
